Rita Smith Owner of Mola Art and Craft
Nuedi! Bienvenidos! Welcome!
Rita Smith, is a native of Panama, lived there for many years, an Economist, professional and business women in the United States for more than 15 years. She love and appreciate the textiles of the Guna indians of Panama.
Her mother taught her how to sew and deep interest grew on her, she has been interested in textiles-fabric arts ever since, the art of sewing has inspired her to appreciate handmade art. Creativity and learning has always been part of her life. Rita love the idea of how molas can be incorporated on any quilting project or to embellish clothing, t-shirts, purses, vest, sandals, wallhangings, pillows, pot holders, oven mitten, mola bookcovers, placemats, christmas stockings, and home decor with these applique panels. She is a fabric-craft addict who love designing unique projects. Art in one form or another has always played an important part in my family and life. She comes from a large family where sewing plays an important role, many of them are professionals and spent part of their life sewing as a hobby, others designing. Her mother who has been there for her, also taught her the passion and love for the art, culture and traditions of her country.
Rita is often asked which themes, colors or molas are her favorites, however she doesn't have a preference on mola themes or colors, the more She collect them, the deeper her passion and love for mola art grows.
She spent part of her time quilting, sewing, selling Molas locally and also participating in different Arts and Craft Shows/Festivals within her area.
Rita attended Panama Canal College, after her College she married her husband, his job transfer and they move to the US in the 90's. She studied at various Universities like Panama University (Economics), Honor student, Sinclair Community College, Hondros College, Panama Canal College, she also worked in the Statistic Department-Panama University, Logistic Department SAP/R3 (Teaching), Mortgage Company, then became interested in the a Real Estate business, but she never forgot her love for fabric-textiles. She is a collector of Molas and other craft from Panama. She love the magnificient art of the Gunas of her country, because they are very talented people and She appreciate the way they are "simple people".
To the Gunas their canoes are just like a brand new car to the Americans.
She hope you appreciate this art as much as She does. Each mola has been sewn with care and love from the Guna Women and made specially for you.
The sale of molas is one of the most important source of income for the Guna people.
Rita is very passionate about what she sells. She grew up around the Guna art, her relative works in San Blas Island for more than 5 years in the healthcare field.
Her aim is customer satisfaction, great communication, friendly, fast delivery of your order and above superb-high quality molas.
She has been selling molas for more than five years, She is part of the Artspan Community which is #1 in Artists Website, go to www.artspan.com and search for her name under directories (start with her last name first, then her first name) or you can do a search by artwork, then type "mola" and click on search, I also want to make sure that you have a pleasant experience shopping here with us. We appreciate your business and all the support to the Guna communities that I am working with: Achutupu, Mamitupu, Ustupu, Aligandi and others, the more molas you buy, more molas we will be able to purchase from the Gunas and support them because this is the only source of income for all their economic and educational problems (children's are in need of education, school supplies, medical, clothes, etc) and help them keep their traditional life and culture.
Please feel free to ask me any questions [email protected]
Our top goal is to be able to help and support many children and the Guna women through the sale of these molas, enabling their communities to prosper, so they can continue to sew their traditional molas and keep their cultural traditions. We value their artwork and put the Gunas before profit, we buy directly from the Guna artisans to make sure they receive the benefits, that way they will have enough income to solve their economic needs, to continue to provide collectors and all customers with this Exquisite and fine Textile Art from San Blas Kuna Yala, Panama. Meanwhile contributing to discover more about this art, the richest of their culture and the beauty of the San Blas Islands.
I travel each year back to my country and spent time in the beautiful San Blas Islands, I had worked with them for the past years and I had meet the most wonderful people there, it is always a great joy and experience to be able to spent time with the Guna Families.
All our product are Superb and High Quality, authentic, 100% guaranteed.
